Side A begins with a marvelous demo from this month’s interviewee, Rob Naughton of KSHE-FM in St. Louis. We follow that with a nice piece of production from Advantage Productions, the audio for this month’s Producer’s VU column--read then listen, or listen then read! Cut 3 is an award winner from Hedquist Productions/Jeffrey Hedquist (writer of RAP’s Radio Hed column). The spot, for Wright State University, was the National Winner of the 1998 Silver Microphone Awards in the Institutional/Professional/Utilities Category. Cut 9 features original music done by Paul Morgan of City Beat 96.7/Belfast, and the last cut is more of the Clinton/Lewinsky inspired work heard throughout this month’s Cassette.
Side B is devoted to promos. Cut 6 from Dusty Rhodes is a good example of going the extra mile. Dusty writes: “Dustin the Turkey (no relation) is a big puppet star who appears on the Irish national Radio & TV broadcast network, RTE. However, as this panto is being promoted by a competing independent radio station, he flat out refused to do any VOs for this promo. He did, however, give me permission to use any clips I could find off any of his 3 CD releases. Not only that, but the female voice was recorded in RTE, the male voice in the competing station, FM104, and the kids are my nephew and niece who happened to call my house at the right time. The laugh track in the background is my good lady wife--got it after telling her a joke one night and she couldn’t stop laughing! What could I do…only run tape!”
