We begin Side A with an outstanding collection of work from Sterling Tarrant, this month's interview! Cuts 2 and 3 from Holly Buchanan are samples of promos done using the technique described in this month's Tips & Techniques section on page 18 -- read then listen! Cut 9 from Paul Kinsman/OZ-FM is for NTV (television), the parent company of OZ-FM. NTV and OZ-FM are preparing to deliver radio and television to cable companies via satellite, and this is a promo for the "launch" of the project.
Side B offers some first rate creative commercial production. Paul Bahr/WDEK, DeKalb writes: I had to write an ad about storm doors. To say the least, I had a case of writer's block. Instead of using SFX like Marshall Such suggests [Tips & Techniques, Aug. '94 RAP], I open my dictionary to a page at random. I pick a word from that page and write an ad around it. The word I came across for this ad was "igloo." Check out the results on cut 6. Great idea to cure writer's block! We wrap up Side B with a spoof spot from Joe Roach/WRMN/WJKL/WBIG, and a couple of spoofs from Dennis Steele's archives!
