The BMI Foundation has extended the application deadline for the BMI Founders Award for Radio Broadcasting scholarship competition through April 1, 2018. Open to broadcasting students nationwide, the third annual program will award up to $5,000 for the best original essay response entry. The winner will also receive a trip to the 43rd annual Conclave Learning Conference in Minneapolis this summer, where the recipient will be presented with their award. Aspiring radio newscasters, announcers, sales executives and program directors are encouraged to apply.

BMI Founders Award for Radio BroadcastingEstablished in 2015, the award commemorates the group of radio industry leaders who founded Broadcast Music, Inc. in 1939 with an unprecedented and enduring mission: to provide a competitive source for music licensing and an open-door policy to songwriters, composers, and publishers of all genres of music. Each year, the program recognizes a student with the potential to become an innovator in the rapidly changing field of broadcast radio.

According to Dan Spears, BMI’s Vice President of Industry Relations and Director of the competition, all entrants must be current students at an accredited U.S. college or university, between the ages of 17 and 24 at the time of entry, and a degree candidate in Broadcast Communications or a related major. Applicants will be evaluated based on their essay response, letter of recommendation and academic record. Online applications must be completed and submitted no later than April 1, 2018, 11:59 pm EST. For more information and to apply, please visit www.bmifoundation.org/broadcast
