The R.A.P. Soundstage - November 2015

Up first is this month’s Editor’s Choice Award winner, a recruitment spot from Kat Morgan Gaines at Scripps in Springfield, MO. Over the years, recruitment spots have been some of the most creative spots submitted, and this one is no exception. Track 2 is audio from Dave Foxx referenced in his Production 212 column. Track 3 is the commercial Dennis Daniel writes about in his Commercial Chronicles column this month. More commercials on tracks 4-12, including a well-done PSA on track 9 from a couple of second year students at SAIT. A few promos light up tracks 13-15, imaging montages are on tracks 16-19, and we wrap it up with a little Halloween bumper from Al Peterson, which comes with some notes from Al that us long-time radio producers will certainly relate to. Al writes:

I've sent you a short Halloween music bump we put together rather hastily here at Radio America for the syndicated "Pet Show With Warren Eckstein", with dogs, cats and a screaming goat backing up the bassline to "Thriller". I didn't send it because I though it amounted to any level of production genius or revolutionary technique... but because it occurred to me that, thanks to affordable digital sampling and modern audio recording software, we've been able to do this kinda work now for OVER 25 YEARS. A quarter-century. George Bush was president. The first episode of "Waynes World" aired on SNL. Average income was $27.4k (and sadly for some jocks, it still is). That's a long damn time ago. When I think of the multiple rushes I experienced over that time, sitting down for the first time on SAW, the AKG DSE-7000 (Orban "Audicy") and the Fairlight Digital Synthesizer, it reminds me of why I still love what I do for a living. Even when I'm asked to crank out dopey stuff like this.

Help support the RAP Soundstage by sending some audio you’ve recently produced at your studios. Please include your e-mail address for anyone interested in finding out details about the work. Promos, commercials, sweepers/IDs, bits, spoof spots, song parodies, and most any other good piece of production are welcome. If you send sweeper/ID montages, make them around sixty to ninety seconds long max. All other items should be sent as separate files. Please normalize your mp3 files and trim the silence from the front and back. Email to, and thank you for supporting the R.A.P. Soundstage, formerly known as The R.A.P. CD and The R.A.P Cassette from way back in the day – none of which exist or have existed without you. J
